Abstract

The article examines the design differences of the AK-12 assault rifle compared to its predecessor, the AK-74 (AK-74M). The functionality of the trigger mechanism is analyzed, and the reason for the change in the barrel rifling pitch is discussed. The article reviews structural changes in the sights, stock, dust cover, gas block, gas tube, muzzle brake-compensator, and sling mount. Possible positive and negative consequences of these changes are also identified. It is noted that accessories available on the international arms market from manufacturers outside the russian federation cannot be used with this weapon. The convenience of accessing maintenance tools (such as the cleaning rod) is evaluated.
