Abstract

In contrast to firing with range correction, firing from the UAR-15 automatic rifle with the sight aimed at the range of a direct shot (without conducting the range correction to the target) at a range of 200...350 meters leads to the need for repeated firing to ensure its destruction. This is explained by the fact that at the specified distances the trajectory of the bullets approaches the upper section of the target, while the upper part of the target has a reduced size (simulating a human head).

The proposed approach ensures the effectiveness of shooting from an automatic rifle with a collimator sight at the maximum range (in terms of the number of rounds required to hit the target) without introducing corrections to the range to the target to the level where these corrections must be taken into account. The essence of this approach is to minimize the deviation of the average point of impact of the bullets from the center of the target.

This approach is implemented by:

compensation for the decrease in the trajectory of the bullet due to the property of increasing the size of the sight mark of the collimator sight on the descending branch of the trajectory of the bullet;

reducing the maximum height of the trajectory of the bullets (that is, the deviation of the average point of impact from the center of the target) to the level when hitting the target with the first shot is ensured.

As a result of the calculations, it was found that in order to ensure the minimization of the number of cartridges required to hit the target at the distances of the ascending branch of the trajectory of the UAR-15 bullet and taking into account the compensation of the descending branch of the trajectory of the bullet by the dimensions of the aiming mark (2 MOA), the aiming range should be 385 meters (at 100 meters, the excess of the trajectory of the bullets above the aiming line should be 23 сm).

The proposed approach to aiming the UAR-15 automatic rifle with the Aimpoint CompM4s collimator sight provides effective firing at targets (up to 350 m in the «chest figure», up to 450 m in the «height figure») without making corrections to the firing range. The obtained initial data for aiming the UAR-15 automatic rifle can be used for aiming any collimator sight with the dimensions of the aiming mark (2 MOA) and the excess of the aiming line above the line of the barrel − 7 сm. The external ballistic data in the article are given for the conditions of shooting with cartridges with steel cores (5.56×45 mm PS) from barrels 14.5ʺ long.
