The article presents the results of a comprehensive study of fragments of the 9M723 operational-tactical missile of the 9K720 Iskander operational-tactical missile complex, manufactured by the aggressor country, using the method of scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis. The main objective of the study was to determine the chemical composition of the materials of the missile structures to create an information base that can be used to identify such missiles and develop effective countermeasure algorithms.
The chemical composition of the body and the cover of the 9M723 missile body was analyzed. It was found that the missile parts that were studied are made of low-alloy heat-resistant steel of the 15Kh5VF type and heat-resistant corrosion-resistant titanium alloy of the OT4-0 type.
The use of materials in the external structures of the 9M723 missile body that provide resistance to oxidation at temperatures up to +600 °C is due to the short flight time of the missile, during which it does not have time to reach critical temperatures of the main bearing surfaces.
These steels and alloys were developed, standardized and introduced into serial production during the era of the former USSR. This indicates the aggressor’s efforts to ensure maximum productivity of their production under sanctions pressure from advanced countries of the world.
The results of this study can be used to develop systems to counter similar missiles, as well as to optimize the production of similar missile systems based on the data obtained on the chemical composition of materials.
