Threats to the global positioning military system are evolving rapidly, from the proliferation of small commercial interference devices to the professional military complexes of the EW, which are in service in the armies of the world's leading countries. Therefore, the issue of creating a sustainable PNT system (positioning, navigation and synchronization), on which the armed forces can confi dently rely, is currently very acute, as technological threats continue to grow. In the paper authors considers the main advantages and disadvantages of the latest technologies for the development of navigation aids. It is emphasized that the main groups of technologies for positioning are: radio frequency technologies, satellite navigation technologies (GPS, GLONASS), local positioning technologies (infrared and ultrasonic), radio frequency tags – ItFID. Among the radio frequency technologies are standard data transmission technologies (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee), which are somehow adapted for distance measurement, and those that, based on the physical properties of modulation, are most suitable for distance measurement (CSS / ISO24730-5, UWB, 1SO24730-2, NFER). GPS and GLONASS systems, created and widely used especially for navigation purposes, in particular positioning of objects, are presented as a satellite of radio navigation means. Positioning in cellular networks is represented by consideration of methods and technologies: Cell Of Origin, Angle of arrival, Time of arrival, hybrid method, Mobile Positioning System (Ericsson), RadioCamera ™, SnapTrack ™ (Wireless Assistant GPS), Cursor ™ (CPS), Finder (CellPoint), a solution based on WiFi. Among the positioning systems using radio frequency identifi ers (RFID) – labels considered transponders and beacons. Radio frequency positioning technology (near fi eld) is represented by the technology of measuring the distance in the near electromagnetic fi eld Near fi eld electromagnetic ranging (NFER). Also the disadvantages and advantages of ultra broadband technology (Ultra Wideband) (UWB), real-time positioning system – RTLS, adaptive navigation system, optical atomic clock, STOIC – Spatial Temporal and Orientation Information (spatial, temporal and oriented information programs) are identifi ed.
