In recent years, there has been a sharp increase in the number, range and effectiveness of anti-tank weapons (ATW) which strike armored vehicles from the upper hemisphere. Therefore, providing protection is a crucial challenge for all types of armored vehicles [2, 3]. The article adresses the characteristics of ammunition that attack armored vehicles from the upper hemisphere and their application milestones. The authors assessed the capabilities of existing methods and tools to protect armored vehicles against striking from the upper hemisphere and identifi ed areas for their development. They analyzed the main design limitations
in the application of passive armor protection, systems of dynamic and active protection of armored vehicles against striking from the upper hemisphere. The authors point out that the most promising areas are the improvement of weapons guidance counteraction systems and visibility reduction systems, not only in the optical, but also in the infrared and radar wavelengths.
The analysis shows that without the introduction of special methods and techniques it is impossible to provide the necessary levels of protection of armored vehicles against striking from the upper hemisphere, and protection against striking by cluster munitions is the most diffi cult problem that can be addressed only through integrated use of various methods. - Author Biographies
