Abstract

The types of propellant charges used in firing 155-mm artillery systems are considered, as well as methods for assessing barrel longevity indicators and determining its remaining service life when firing with variable propellant charges of both bagged and modular types. An analysis is conducted on the methods for converting the number of shots fired with variable propellant charges into an equivalent full charge, as regulated by normative documents adopted in NATO countries. The problem of assessing the remaining service life, degree of wear and further prediction of changes in these indicators for barrels of domestic 155-mm artillery systems that have not undergone a full cycle of testing is identified. A method for determining conversion coefficients for the number of shots fired using modular-type variable propellant charges to an equivalent full charge is proposed. The article may be useful for specialists in the field of operation, maintenance and repair of artillery weaponry.
